June is
now doing most of the daytime hunting as she is seen here bringing back a tasty squirrel
for the boys. She entered the nest and carefully parceled it up between Wally and
Theodore. Both were on their best behavior and there was no pushing or stealing. Wally has
made two more leaps into the doorway and seems to be more comfortable in that lofty
position than he was the first few times. Theodore is not making similar progress and has
yet to come close to reaching the doorway. He uses a different technique from Wally in
which he hooks his beak over the top rung of the owlet ladder and tries to pull himself
up. It is not working and I expect him to switch to Wally's leaping approach soon. Ward
and June can be heard calling to the young owls throughout the night. June uses her whine
and Ward his wail. I still expect them to leave within the next few days, but Theodore has
some serious catching up to do. There were at least three food deliveries last night and
two more today. The bees and owls are still living in peace inside the nest, but crow
activity is picking up outside. This could seriously restrict outside activity by Wally
and Theodore.
