These were the sights and sounds (135KB)
of the nest box this morning as June preened Theodore while Wally waited. The chattering
sound is Theodore expressing his pleasure and the hissing sound is Wally expressing his
impatience. They have been so active in the nest box for the past twenty four hours that
it is difficult to imagine them staying for another week. Both owlets now have wing spans
that exceed twenty inches and they use them frequently to assist in leaping over each
other. Theodore has now started to imitate Wally's "frogman" (pushing his body
around by vigorously clawing the floor) but is even less considerate than Wally when
he does it. He often throws sawdust all over Wally or even pushes off on Wally's feet
and legs. |
Yesterday's food deliveries were a little more exotic with June bringing a
squirrel and a large snake. When the owlets did not show much interest in the snake, June
took it back and flew away to eat it herself. Snake is one of her favorite delicacies.
Food is not a problem with both Ward and June hunting throughout the day and no crows in
sight. |
