June spent
only about 50% of her time incubating today. The south end of June is seen here as she
perches in the door while the two-inch egg goes unincubated. She also left the nest area
completely for four hours between six and ten PM. I was surprised by this as the
temperature was just below freezing. She also continued her rough treatment of the egg and
spent some time loudly chewing on it. No damage was apparent and I must assume that she
knows what she is doing.
