Courting Rituals

This frenzied duet (150K audio file)  was recorded at the nest during the night of March 7th. It is typical of the nighttime duets that were heard in early March. The squeal at the end was produced by June who repeated it many times in other duets. She also used it last year to communicate with the owlets when they were first left alone in the nest. Compare it to that call on June's 1997 page. The photograph of  Ward and June was taken at mid day, two months later.
