Wally
and Theodore spent their first day together wheezing, peeping and eating. June got little
rest as she is seen here doing a pirouette to change her incubating-brooding-feeding
position. The third egg, along with the snowy white down of one of the brothers, can just
be seen under her. She spent at least forty percent of her day crunching through bones to
cut food into small pieces for the owlets. She routinely makes that incredible chattering sound you heard yesterday as she
is handing the pieces to the owlets. Since their eyes are not yet open, they probably need
a sound to reach for. Both owlets now favor their wheezing call when asking for food, but
occasionally digress to peeping. The peep is still their standard noise when left alone in
the nest. June has only been out of the nest for seven minutes in the last twenty four
hours. Ward made three food deliveries last night. They included a squirrel, a smaller
unidentified rodent, and a still smaller mouse. If the third egg is going to hatch,
tomorrow would be the most likely day. The peeping that Wally and Theodore are doing
prevents me from distinguishing any pre-hatching peeping.
