Wally is
seen here resting his head on the two remaining eggs while waiting for June to return from
a morning rendezvous with Ward. His beak and the outlines of his still-closed eyes can
just be seen on his tiny head. In spite of his size, Wally is proving to be a vocal
prodigy. In addition to the peeping sound that you heard yesterday, he has now learned the
"wheeze" sound (110K)
which can barely be heard in the background as June uses her chattering sound while
feeding him this morning. One of these two eggs is a "talking egg" that is
making the same peeping sound that Wally made before he fully emerged. It must be standard
for them to break out with their beaks and start peeping well before they fully hatch.
Ward made three food deliveries last night which included a red squirrel that is stored in
the nest to see Wally through the day.
