Brief Diversion

As June waited for her overdue eggs to hatch, she took a short break to greet a surprise guest who had ventured onto her roof. Her guest is shown scampering away after recognizing the important distinction between being asked to dinner and being asked for dinner. While barred owls are capable of chasing down alert squirrels, this requires a significant energy expenditure and often takes many tries. They much prefer to surprise and pounce on their prey. June had more important things to do this day and soon went back inside to continue incubating her eggs.

Still no hatchling. June's part time incubation during the first few days may have delayed things a bit. Last night, there were two food deliveries by Ward and two ten-minute silent outings by June. All of the rest of her time was spent on the eggs. She seems quite relaxed and is now staring through her door. (10am)
