The
owlets went from dawn to dusk without any food and complained about it by
wheezing almost continuously. June is shown here, just before going
after a squirrel that was scampering up a nearby tree. She missed it and
had to go back into the nest to calm the owlets who had worked themselves
into a frenzy by the time she returned. Ward's luck was no better as the
crows could be heard harassing him for most of the day. He is, however,
having a much better night and made four deliveries before 11pm.
Each was greeted by squeals from June and wild wheezing from the
owlets. June has not left the nest since the first delivery and has been
feeding the owlets almost continuously.
The owlets are now old enough so that going through the day without a
feeding will not harm them if they are able to catch up at night. |
