While
Ward looked a bit more relaxed as he sat on his high perch yesterday, the
first real indication that something had changed did not come until just
after dark when he landed on the rail of the nest box. He then proceeded
to repeat his monkey call
from the doorway for the next five minutes to assert his ownership for the
first time this year. The reason for his enthusiasm became apparent about two
hours later when June could be heard entering the nest box for some
serious housekeeping. The wood chips could be heard bouncing off of the
walls as she rearranged them again and again. This continued until
Ward called to her with his classic hoot almost thirty minutes later. She
responded immediately with her own classic hoot and bolted out of the nest
to join him. They could be heard exchanging hoots several more times
during the night and it's beginning to look like there may be a new family
this year after all. |
