A bitterly cold winter has made life very difficult in Ward and June's territory this year. It's tough for an owl to hunt with deep snow muffling the sounds of the prey that scamper on top of it and hiding the many critters that burrow beneath it. This has forced the owls to extend their hunting into daylight where they are harassed continuously by crows and jays. I have seen Ward twice in the last week, but there has been no sign of June for two months. It is possible that she has moved out of her territory in search of better hunting and I'm hopeful that she will return for nesting in March. The picture on the right was taken on February 23rd and shows the empty nest box waiting above more than two feet of snow.
OwlCam will again follow the owls adventures this year.
