| June has spent less than ten minutes outside the nest in the last 24 hours and Ward again seems reluctant to approach the nest. June stayed inside all day today, so that it was impossible to get a look at her eggs, and even resisted going outside when Ward announced the arrival of her first meal of the day just after dark. They repeated this sequence of calls (75KB) for almost five minutes with Ward's monkey call encouraging her to come out and her whine urging him to bring the prey to the nest. Ward got his way on this occasion, but June was back in the nest in less than three minutes. The same scene was repeated again about an hour later when Ward delivered her second meal. I've never seen June so determined to stay in the nest, or Ward so reluctant to approach it and must assume that the great horned owls are still lurking nearby. Ward and June do, however, seem to have a routine that works and June is getting plenty to eat. |
