| June is now spending almost all of her time in the nest, which strongly suggests that the sneezing sound she made this morning signaled the arrival of a second egg. She did not, however, leave the nest until after dark, so that it is impossible to be certain. The arrival of the second egg marks the beginning of a six-week period when June will seldom leave the nest and Ward will have to do all the hunting for the family. This will stress Ward's hunting skills to the maximum as he will have to double his normal catch in a season when prey is relatively scarce. He is however a very experienced hunter and should be able to pull it off again this year. It's been much colder and very windy today, so that both his job and June's are made more difficult. As of 11pm, Ward had still not made his first food delivery of the night, and June had not called to him from the nest as she normally would when he is late. |
