There has not been another
successful attempt to reach the doorway
since Emmett's big trip yesterday. They have tried, but just can't seem to
get it right. Sometimes they jump in the wrong direction and other times
they miss the owlet steps and fall back into the nest. While June spent
some time trying to call them out this afternoon, I suspect that they were
too well fed to be sufficiently motivated. She hunted for most of this
rainy day and managed to bring in a mouse, such as this one, or a chipmunk
every couple of hours. Ward also brought in a snake just after noon. June
did not enter the nest for mouse deliveries, but did stick her head in the
door and take the time to select the most deserving recipient. Ward, on
the other hand, just dumps his prey through the door without sticking
around to see who gets it. I expect more attempts at getting to the door
tomorrow, but for now they seem content to stay in the nest and wait for
the food to come to them. Last year's departure came just five days after
the first trip to the door. |
