Hot Hungry Day

The crows did not allow June to hunt yesterday so that the owlets had to go all day without a meal. The wheezing and whining were relentless as the owlets called for food and June called for Ward. Ward tried to help, but was turned back by a large angry swarm of crows each time. At sundown, both owls quickly went to work and made more than ten deliveries before dawn. Each time that June entered the nest to divide up the prey, the bone crunching and wheezing were awesome. The owlets do not appear to have suffered any lasting harm from their day without food, and looked to be in great shape this morning when June inspected them as shown here. In spite of all the deliveries, there was only one mouse left at dawn and it was gone in less than an hour. This does not appear to be alarming to June or the owlets who have learned that there are times when you just have to wait. The hot spell is scheduled to end tonight, so that the owls should be able to return to a more normal routine.
