Ward has
taken advantage of the improving weather to catch up on his hunting. He
made four food deliveries both last night and the night before, and June
is now looking a lot more relaxed. With temperatures climbing into the
mid-50s, she has spent most of the day sleeping. She seems to have the
wood chips about the way she wants them now and only spends a few minutes
each day shredding and rearranging them. It is essential to the
development of the eggs that she rotate them every couple of hours, and
she has been doing this faithfully. With a full stomach and warmer
weather, she has not called to Ward for the last two days, and seems less
eager when he makes a food delivery at night. He has stopped by just after
dark for the last two days and called to her from behind the nest box, but
she somehow knows that this is not a food delivery and does not react in
any way. Not until he arrives with her first meal a couple of hours later
does she respond to his call or go out to meet him. We are having another
bright sunny day, and June is sleeping comfortably in the warm sunlight
that is streaming through her door. |
