With
less than a week to go before the first egg should hatch, June is taking
special care to do all the right things. She is seen here rotating the
eggs, as she does every couple of hours. In wildlife research facilities
where they incubate eggs in captivity, they have machines that rotate the
eggs, but I'm sure that June does a better job. She has also been limiting
her outings to less than five minutes and staying on the eggs continuously
while she is in the nest. The temperature dropped below freezing again
last night and Ward managed to make only two deliveries. She is letting
him hear about it this morning with a lot of hooting and whining. Such
lapses could be serious after the eggs hatch, because a generous supply of
food will be needed at all times. |
