Emily got
tired of watching Rufus from below and decided to climb up and join him.
It was a big struggle, but she scratched, clawed and even tried to pull
herself up by her beak before she finally took her place beside Rufus. The
most surprising thing about her climb was the extent of Rufus'
cooperation. He moved as far to his left as possible to give her room and
then greeted her by preening the top of her head. I guess he welcomes a
little help in trying to figure out how to get to the owl rail below. When
June saw Emily, she started hooting and Ward joined in with both monkey
calls and classic hoots to celebrate. Seymour did not seem too happy about
being left alone inside and almost drowned out Ward and June's hooting
with his wheezing. Emily returned to the nest box floor after about five
minutes, while Rufus stayed out for another hour. Things have been quiet
this morning with only one visit by June and no hooting, but the older
owlets look too restless to stay much longer. |
