After
spending last night in some of the longest and loudest feeding sessions
ever, the owlets were forced to spend the morning looking up at June's
tail as she sat in the doorway. With no food in the nest, she repeatedly
whined for Ward, but he did not respond. Daytime hunting is for
emergencies only and he knew that she was free to go out for a meal if the
owlets were really hungry. She finally gave up on him at 1pm and went out
to do her own hunting. One hour later, she entered the nest with a large
snake that set off a feeding frenzy among the owlets. It was an Eastern
Ribbon Snake just like the one they had eaten the day before and they were
all over it before she could even start dividing it up. Rufus and Emily,
who are shown here, are now almost eight inches long and growing rapidly.
Seymour who was sleeping on the floor at the time is only a little over
six inches long and continues his slower progress. |
