Waiting His Turn

June looks exhausted after a hectic day of feeding the unruly owlets. Rufus continued to wheeze the loudest and reach the highest, so he usually got fed first. Emily, however, conceded nothing and often tried to steal the food from Rufus' mouth, while Seymour waited his turn. Sooner or later, June got around to them all. Ward had another good night and continued his hunting into daylight to deliver his last mouse at 9am. Mouse now seems to make up at least 70% of their diet. Today's activities also included some mouse training in which June appears to be trying to teach Rufus to eat a whole mouse. She calls to him while pretending to swallow the mouse herself before putting the whole mouse in his mouth. It is of course far to big for him to swallow, but he tries valiantly until she takes it back and splits it up among the owlets. Owlets have been known to swallow surprisingly large prey items, but this was too much for an eight-day-old Rufus. Despite being last in line, Seymour appears to be growing and looks very healthy.
