It's taking
Ward and June a while to adjust to the responsibilities of parenthood, but
they are making progress. While June spent less than half of her time
incubating her egg on the first two days, she has gradually increased it
to nearly full time. Her two longest departures came when Ward failed to
respond to her calls from the nest box. On both occasions, she bolted out
of the nest and did not return for more than four hours. Since then, Ward
has responded quickly and she has remained in the nest. Ward has also been
doing well with his hunting and has made at least two deliveries each
night. No sign of a second egg yet, but intervals between eggs can be
three days or more. June is now sleeping in the warm sun streaming through
her door as she incubates her lone egg. |
