spent more than half the day in the nest today and seemed to be making
final preparations for the big event. She appears to have the wood chips
arranged about the way she wants them and is now focused on converting
as many of them as possible to sawdust. While she seldom glances at the
new camera, she was curious enough to try to bite the lens today as
shown here. That's why it's mounted a couple of inches behind the
opening. She and Ward have been more vocal than ever as they enjoy their
last few days before taking on the responsibilities of parenthood.
Shortly after dark, Ward summoned her with his monkey call and she
joined him outside for this incredible
exchange (230KB). The activity level in and around the nest has now
exceeded that of the 1998 nesting season.
