When Ward
made a surprise daylight visit to the nest area yesterday, June
immediately bolted out of the nest to join him. They met in a heavily
wooded area just beyond the nest box where they could be heard hooting
excitedly above the angry calls of the jays and smaller birds. She stayed
out for about ten minutes before returning to the nest and entering
quickly without her usual delay on the owl rail. Her first priority upon stepping off of the owlet ladder was
to carefully examine the eggs as she is seen doing here. The third egg is
OK -- just out of view. Ward made two food deliveries again last night
and June took a couple of ten minute breaks outside the nest. |
