Seymour the
owl joined his older brother and sister sometime last night. Rufus and
Emily had been so noisy that I did not hear Seymour's peeping and was
completely surprised when his much smaller head popped up in one of this
morning's feeding sessions. I believe that the owlet in this picture is
Rufus, but will need time to learn to reliably distinguish him from Emily.
Their voices are different, but they are about the same size. It's no
problem recognizing Seymour as he is not much bigger than an egg. Younger
owlets, such as Seymour, have a tough time competing and may not make it
in years when food is scarce. Let's hope prey is plentiful this year and
that Ward is up to the task. |
